Melbourne Gun Club Wins South East Zone Teams Event
By Craig Henwood

Werribee Victorian Clay Target Club played host for Round 2 of the South East Zone Teams event on Sunday 25th of May 2008. Conditions although a little overcast at times were perfect for shooting, specially for Werribee!!! Melbourne Gun Club had 14 members turn up so we were able to field 3 very strong teams (thanks to Nino Pedulla for being a "ring in" for Team #3 who were 1 short)

Twenty one squads competed on the day and after the Handicap event it was Melbourne Team 2 who had bolted out to a very handy lead of 118/125. Scott Barry shot very well to come 2nd in this event with 50/51.

With the Double Barrel event left to be shot it looked like our Team 2 had it sewn in the bag, but a few nervous shots saw Team 2 come in with one less target shot in the DB then what they shot in the Handicap to finish on 235/250. They then had a nervous wait as there were 3 other teams who could knock them off, including Melbourne Team 3 who were all shooting very well.

In the end it came down to the last squad of the day and Charlie Galea from Frankston had to shoot the 25 for Frankston to win. He missed 2 in a row leaving Melbourne Team 2 the victors and Melbourne Team 3 in equal 2nd. A fantastic day for Melbourne Gun Club!!!

The winning team members were - Ian Jewell, Ron Williams, Barry Humphris,
Frank Santoro and Scott Barry.

Melbourne now sits in 2nd position for the Teams Series and as we play host for the next round on June 28th we will be looking to make up more ground on leaders Frankston. Being on home soil we hope to see all members present so we can field as many teams as possible!

Craig Henwood successfully qualifies for the Olympics

Craig to represent Australia in the men’s trap at the Beijing Olympics.

The Shooting Appeals Tribunal has dismissed an appeal by former Olympic men’s trap bronze medallist Adam Vella who was placed third behind Craig and Olympic gold medallist Michael Diamond for selection in the two-man team.

Competing at the Olympic level is the ultimate for any sportsperson and to do it the way Craig has is all the more remarkable. He’s done it the hard way without sponsorship, government funding or the benefit of assistance from organisations such as the Australian Institute of Sport.
Craig's achievements have come through sheer determination and dedication."

Craig

Our New Olympian - Congratulations Craig!

At the Melbourne Storm Game(Sunday 6th July Melbourne Storm V’s Canberra Raiders) several Olympians including Craig had a lap of Honor. And there is our Craig...
